The Geography of Poverty

This course provides an examination of the spatial dimensions of poverty in the United States and provides evidence that there is some utility in brining the spatial perspective of the geographer to bear on the national problem of poverty. The course addresses disparities in wealth, economic prosperity and social-well being and quality of life issues in American cities. Different perspectives (geographical, sociological, economic, psychological, and cultural) on the definitions and dimensions of poverty are examined in some depth.
