Course Information: Literary Theory and Criticism  (80304)

This practical course is designed to give English majors guided opportunities to acquire effective methods of writing literary analyses informed by current literary criticism and cultural theories, including Marxism, dialogic and semiotic analysis, deconstruction, Ecocriticism, Psychoanalytic theory, New Historicism, and lack Feminist Criticism. By the end of the course, successful students will demonstrate mastery of essential critical concepts, an ability to use critical theory to illuminate literary texts, and an ability to write with clarity and insight about literature. It is a required course for all English majors. Students should note that ENGL 3010 is a pre- or co-requisite for all upper division courses in literature.
