Practicum
(80866)
Practicum experiences encompass a spectrum of activities, including guided observations across various educational settings, tutoring sessions with students, co-teaching mini-lessons in classrooms, facilitating small group learning activities, and independently teaching complete lessons in larger classroom settings. This course serves as a bridge between theoretical knowledge gained in professional studies courses and the practical realities of teaching. Through observation, active participation, and hands-on experience, teacher candidates gain valuable insights and skills under the guidance and approval of mentor teachers. Experiences and observations during practica form the basis of class discussions and are integral components of the coursework. This course is designed to provide teacher candidates with research, standards-based planning, instruction, and assessment strategies differentiated by the grade range and certification field. 120 Practicum hours are required in a school setting in the specific content area(s) and in the grade range.
