Course Information: Freshman Year Experience  (21631)

Required Materials:   COURSE GUIDELINES/ASSIGNMENTS ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TYPED and are due by 1:40 PM in class on the due date. All assignments should be free from grammatical errors and should possess the vernacular and presentation of college work and of a collegian; all multiple pages must be stapled. Dawson  Savannah State University email will be the official tool for out of class communication. Please check to insure your email account is active.  You must learn the SSU Hymn (the Alma Mater) and SSU Fight Song (HINT: You may see these on a test or pop quiz very early in the semester); it will be difficult, at best, to pass this class without knowing these two hallmarks of the institution.  Absolute Academic Integrity is required at all times; this class operates on honesty and respect. No collaborations will be allowed on individual assignments. All sources and references for all assignments must be documented (APA style). Group assignments must detail the individual contributions of each group. All violations of Academic Integrity policy will be referred to the Office of Vice President of Student Affairs.  Bring your book (THE FRESHMAN YEAR EXPERIENCE: PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS) and personal planner (SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC PLANNER), SSU Student Handbook, blank or notebook paper, and pen to every class meeting.  DRESS CODE: Collegiate clothing is required for this class – no practice gear; special guest may be invited at anytime and students should be dress to leave a favorable impression. Individuals who are not appropriately dressed for class will be dismissed from class – with penalty. Also, students are not permitted to wear head gear of any type (hats, wave caps, do-rags, head scarves, rollers, etc.), exceptions must be approved by the instructor. The instructor will determine the guidelines for “collegiate attire.”  The use of mobile phones, pagers, and other communication devices are strictly prohibited during class. Students are asked to turn these devices off or on silent mode during class; disturbances by such devices or any other disruptive behavior will be addressed in a manner determined during the first class. Use of laptop and other personal computer devices is strictly limited to note taking and class presentation only.  Keep notes on all special guest and visitors, this information may appear on test  Class participation will count as 20% of your final grade  Students may not bring food or drink to the classroom
Technical Requirements:   ATTENDANCE POLICY Class attendance is mandatory; absence from class will result in grade reduction and/or administrative withdrawal from the course prior to Midterm and a grade of “F” after Midterm. Students-athletes must inform the instructor of excused absences a minimum 24 (twenty-four) hours before class and must provide supporting documentation. Report to class early or before 1:40 PM unless prior arrangements were made with the instructor; students who arrive after 1:40 PM will not be admitted and will be marked absent. Class begins promptly at 1:430 PM role will be taken at that time. Student Orientation Leaders/Teachers Assistants are authorized to begin class prior to the arrival of the instructor. Class is schedule to end at 3:20 PM, students should be prepared to stay for the duration of the class period; individuals who leave early will be marked absent.
